The Local Food Van
The Local Food Van is a Product-Service-System developed at the University of Twente and it aims to close the gap between local businesses and local customers. With our van we collect local self-made food from existing shops located on existing farms in the region of Twente and sell it on specific places in Enschede and Hengelo.
With our app, people can make a reservation for products every evening for the next day. They can collect the products at the van, or do shopping on the spot.
Concept Pitch
Firstly in the design process we defined the problem domain. Based on that we carried out market research and picked the target group. The focus was drawn towards both mid-aged, mid-class consumers and local business owners. The value proposition was then outlined for both groups. On the one hand we offer fresh and fair food in your neighborhood, and on the other hand we offer a bigger audience to local businesses and an opportunity to sell extra products on side. All of this is realised by means of the Local Food Van. The van design is modular and contains integrated cooling areas. It comes with a smartphone application that contains deals and information on what products are available, where we sell, the planning and more. By performing careful research and applying laws and regulations we were able to create a realistic route plan. Furthermore we set up a monetary model, making use of a cost estimation and a fair profit plan for collaborating local businesses and investors. With an eye on sustainability we carefully worked out what we do with leftover food and the material selection. Lastly an overview of the future steps and a market introduction strategy was constructed.
