Leftovers

Phase 1: Day-box

Leftovers are an important part of the product life cycle and therefore, play an important role in this Product Service System. Therefore there are two phases to prevent leftovers and throwing food away.

Products with today's expiring date will be collected together in one “day-box”.

These products are available for sale with a discount of 25%. There is a chance that these products will expire on wednesday and saturday, since these were collected monday morning and thursday morning. In that case, the discount will be applied in the afternoon.

Phase 2: Too good to go

When the local shop or farmer signs a contract with the food van, they will be asked what they want The Local Food Van to do with unsold products, this will be evaluated per case.

The Local Food Van will give the option to put the products on the “too good to go” app, if they have not been sold in the “day-box”. These products can be reserved and picked up at the van with a 50% discount at the end of the day.

10 euro

Packaging

Food products are often packaged and, although sometimes throwing away that packaging is less harmful to the environment than throwing away the food items in it, we did add an option to reuse the packaging.

One of the baskets can be filled throughout the day with empty packaging that customers bring back. These will be brought back to the local shops and farmers, to clean and reuse. Possible packaging for this are for example glass bottles, boxes, tiny crates etc. This does however depend on how the local shops and farmers package their products and if they want to reuse the packaging.
